Stand Against Illegal Immigration Week

The League of Women Voters of Beloit and League of Women Voters of Janesville want to thank the County Board for supporting the resolution supporting Stand Against Racism Week. The League of Women Voters of Beloit and the League of Women Voters of Janesville oppose an introduced resolution Proclaiming June 25 - July 2, 2023 “Stand Against Illegal Immigration” Week. All people, including undocumented immigrants, should receive fair treatment under the law. Immigration policies should meet economic, business and employment needs, promote the reunification of immediate families and be responsive to those facing political persecution or humanitarian crisis. The League of Women Voters supports federal immigration laws that provide efficient, expeditious systems for immigrants to enter the United States. Seeking asylum at points of entry into the United States is part of our legal immigration process and assaults on asylum seekers are un-American. The League of Women Voters stands in solidarity with immigrants and our partners in the immigrant rights community. The United States Congress must take immediate action to pass common-sense, fair immigration policies that end the crisis at our border, end the separation of families, and provide a path to citizenship.
