Letter: School Resource Officers, counselors supported

To the editor:
We are writing in regard to your recent editorial about Beloit School System’s financial issues and the School Resource Officers (SRO). The League of Women Voters of Beloit supports officers in the schools, but also supports funding that increases school counselors, social workers, and other student service positions.
Especially after the last two years of pandemic isolation, students are in need of as much support both physically and mentally as possible. The School District of Beloit, as well as other districts, will be faced with many budgetary issues in the next few years. Our hope is that the students’ welfare will be the focus of the decision-making.
